POTS Gallery

POTS Gallery
will be hosting this years
National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts Convention!
 March 26-31, 2012
This will be the first year it has been held in Seattle!
It will bring ceramic art, educators, ceramic artists, collectors and students with more than5,000 in attendance.  There will be over 200 exhibitions in and around Seattle.  Japan, China, Korea, England and Australia will be represented.  This is a big deal for anyone who has an interest in
ceramics as an art form.

POTS Gallery will be doing four different exhibits.

"Pots from Down Under"
Gail Nichols, from Australia, is an innovator of the soda firing process.
She has written a book, “Soda, Clay & Fire”, on her glaze effects that are
new and unique to the field.  Colors and texture wear like loose clothes
on soft forms.  You have not seen these glaze effects before.

 "100 Wood Fire Cups"
curated by Peter Olsen and Chuck Hindes
The exhibit will demonstrate the popularity of the wood fire (“dragon kiln
method” of firing). There will be over 100 wood fired cups on display.
The large number of artists invited to participate will show the range of
folks who take this craft very seriously in America.  All the work will be
for sale.

"12 Wood Fire Kilns of the Northwest"
located at 3509 Fremont Ave N.
Again, this will feature the many artists who fire in each of the kilns.
The style and the process of each kiln has a group personality.  Each kiln
needs a team of workers to do the many hours of firing, wood gathering and
chopping. The process takes over a week for some kilns and the way to be a
part of the process is to purchase some of the work.  Frank Boyden, Al
Tennant, Tom Coleman and Eric Nelsen will have special parts in the show.
The kiln owners featured are:  Hiroshi Ogawa, John Benns, Peter Olsen,
Steve Sauer, Michael McCullough, Drew Nicklas, Careen Stoll, Richard
Brandt, LH Project, Steve Robison, George Gledhill, Stephen Mickey, and
Joe Davis.

"Show of Hands"
exhibited at 3509 Fremont Ave N.
Large terracotta sculptures of hands by David Hollander.  Pieces offer new
meaning to the gestures and language of hands, their forms and scale
making for a delightful show.  David started his ceramic career at Pottery
Northwest and traveled Italy during the past year.  There will be much
more fine work to look forward to.

The first opening will be Friday evening, March 2nd, from 6:00 pm to
9:00 pm, and Saturday, March 3rd, from Noon to 5:00 pm, continuing
Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month of March.  Please see the
attached flyer for more showing times toward the end of the month and
especially during the NCECA Conference.
